8 Simple Tips for Reducing Clutter
Doing the same thing usually creates the same outcome.
Are you willing to try something different?
Here are some simple actions you can take to reduce clutter in your life.
Take a moment to put things back, even when you are rushed.
Pick a small area in your home and create a “clutter-free” zone. Commit to keeping it that way. After one week, pick another small area and do the same.
Schedule one hour of de-cluttering time each week. Suggestions for short projects:
Purse or wallet
Coat closet
One kitchen cabinet
One bookshelf
One bathroom drawer
Freezer
Linen closet
Glove box in your vehicle
Medicine/vitamin cabinet
Sock drawer
Shoes
Store it where you use it -- or at least nearby.
Take ten minutes each evening for completions: books put away, cabinets closed, clothes off the floor, cap on the toothpaste, etc.
Rethink your buying habits. Before purchasing an item, ask, “Do I need it?” and “Is there anything I own that I can use instead of this?”
Give away two or three items for every one new item you bring into your home.
Anything in excess offers an opportunity to simplify.
